Particles and Waves
There was a Zen Master named Beopsang.
One day, a young monk came to him and asked,
“Master, how long have you been staying here?”
Beopsang replied,
“I have only seen the mountains turn green and then yellow.”
Beopsang Zen Master was someone who transcended time. He was not affected by the flow of years. He did not live within the continuum of time called years.
The Flow of All Things and Connection
All things are flowing. This flow continues through the flow itself. We exist within that flow. Conversely, when we try to grasp or conceptualize this flow through connections, it is because we attempt to capture the flow of all things in a state of stillness. The connections you think of are born from your inability to flow along with all things.
If you can flow along with all things, you will realize that it is neither flow nor stillness but a world that encompasses both flow and stillness.
One of you, someday, may become an outstanding physicist and say the following words:
“This world moves while it does not move. This world is one while being layered, and it exists while it does not exist.”
This may seem like a highly enigmatic statement. But someday, you too will come to understand it. The day when modern science can explain this is not far away.
Water, Waves, and the Essence of Light
Water is water, but it also stirs up waves on its own. Water itself is the wave. However, the wave is not the water itself. In the Upanishads, there is the concept of Atman. Atman refers to the world of the most fundamental essence. This fundamental essence manifests into the world of myriad forms, which is called Brahman. Atman is Brahman. However, Brahman is not Atman. In other words, water possesses waves, but waves are merely forms that connect to water and are not water itself.
Light is both particle and wave. Particles and waves are not separate but coexist as one. By fully realizing this truth and grasping the nature of all things, you will clearly understand how this world moves and unfolds.
Toward the World of Non-Attachment
Furthermore, you will understand that your inner world is a world of cognition, and that this world of cognition is both particle and wave. Understanding this, you should break free from the reins of cognition and move toward the world of non-attachment.
